On the 10th of this month, Cranmer brought a court of judgement together to give a final verdict on the King’s case, and today the judges declared King Henry’s marriage to Catherine of Aragon null and void.

So it is done at last. I knew it had to happen, but I am filled with a deep sadness. Princess Mary, we hear, faced the assembled clerics bravely, telling them she would never accept that her mother was anything other than the rightful Queen of England. Catherine herself never appeared before the court.
